Natural Science School Camp in Gorenje nad Zrečami

On 7th September 2020 pupils from 7th grade went to a natural science school camp in Gorenje nad Zrečami. On Monday, pupils saw a deer and fallow deer farm where they fed the animals with apples and had a chance to touch real deer antlers. Pupils attended a night country hike that was very exciting. It was really dark and we helped ourselves with flashlights and pupils loved it very much.

On Tuesday day pupils started the day with a morning short walk. After breakfast they went to a local brook where they did a research on sweet water life in Pohorje. They searched for water animals, measured the PH of water and thought about the influence of non-living factors on different organisms. Pupils caught a frog, but returned it back to the brook. After lunch pupils attended an archery workshop, where they learnt how to handle a bow properly and after trying a few times they successfully hit the target. Pupils enjoyed archery very much as they don’t have the occasion to practice it very often.

On Wednesday pupils did some orienteeering around the village. They had to run in the surroundings of Gorenje and find some spots the PE teacher chose for them. Later they got familiar with slack-line. Slacklining entails balancing on a 2 to 5 centimetre wide piece of webbing made from synthetic fibres, which is rigged between to fixed points, often trees. Pupils have to walk on the slackline and try to keep balance. Pupils some activities in pairs or in group and learnt that they are equally responsible if they want to get on the other side of the slackline.

After slackline was over, pupils learned how to light a fire in nature. They lit a fire themselves and baked some apples and ate them. They were delicious. After dinner they tried to practice some circus tricks.

On Thurdsday we went for a long country hike in the surroundings of Zreče. We had a great time, we did some workout and saw wonderful landscape. In the afternoon pupils had some sports games. We finished our week with a long country hike on Lovrenška Lakes (Lovrenška jezera) on Friday.

The camp was really nice. Pupils had a great time. They spent a week in contact with nature, learnt a lot about nature and water life, did a lot of workout and most importantly connected with their schoolmates.
